Introduction to Encaustic Painting

Saunday, November 6, 10 am - 4 pm, $175 (full - Contact me to join the waiting list.)

No experience is necessary for this quick start wax class. We'll start with a quick painting exercise to help you try several colors while learning the basic fusing techniques using a heat gun. Later we'll move on to techniques involving scraping, layering, incising lines and textured finishes using wax in an assortment of vivid colors. You'll learn how to lay down the wax without air bubbles and get a smooth finish, as well as how to add texture. I'll also demonstrate working the surface of the wax to incorporate drawing, mark making and delicate shading. I'll have lots of materials available for you to play with, and you can work in any style you choose.

All supplies will be provided. Topics will include: brief history, layering and fusing wax, adding texture, working the surface and safety issues. Students will leave class with 2 - 3 finished projects.

Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 4 students so classes fill quickly.
