Beginning Encaustic Painting

Saturday, March 13, 10 am - 4 pm, $160 (full)
Sunday, March 28, 10 am - 4 pm, $160
Saturday, April 17, 10 am - 4 pm, $160

No experience is necessary for this quick start wax class. You will use techniques involving collage, painting, scraping, layering, incising and textured finishes using wax in an assortment of vivid colors. We'll start with a quick painting exercise to help you learn basic fusing techniques using a heat gun. You can also collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate papers, fabric and dried plants once you get used to working with the wax. You'll learn how to lay down the wax without air bubbles and get a smooth finish. Don't worry if you aren't a painter. I'll have lots of materials available for you to play with, and you can work in any style you choose.

All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring some of your favorite images or natural materials (such as dried plants) for your own personal touch. Topics will include: brief history, layering and fusing wax, adding papers, using natural materials and safety issues. Students will leave class with 2 - 3 finished projects.

Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 4-6 students so classes fill quickly.
