Intermediate Encaustic & Photography
The next class has not yet been scheduled. Contact me to join the waiting list.
Photographers seem especially drawn to working with wax because of the variety of ways their images can be reborn in a new medium. I should know, I was originally trained as a photographer and here I am working in encaustic all these years later. This class will be dedicated to the variety of ways your images can included with encaustic using several collage techniques and even learning to pour wax onto your work instead of using a brush. This class combines parts of several of my other classes to cater especially to photographers. You'll use a heat gun, a tacking iron and a propane torch to fuse your wax depending on the requirements of each technique.
Please note: This is an intermediate class for those comfortable working with wax. If you haven't taken a beginning encaustic class you will have to complete one before learning these advanced techniques. Feel free to call me with any questions.
Here's what we'll cover:
- The challenges of working with standard photographic paper
- Using lighter weight papers for differing effects
- Learn how to print to tissue paper, which is the technique I use in my paintings
- Create a dreamy look by pouring wax onto your photographs instead of using a brush
Before class begins I will send you instructions on how to prepare your images. All supplies will be provided except for your personal imagery, including boards, medium, wax paint and brushes. Most students leave class with 2 - 3 finished projects. Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 4 students so classes fill quickly.
