Mind's Eye to Masterpiece

How does a painting go from conception to completion? That process can seem mysterious and there are many ways to approach it, but in this class I'll show you step-by-step how I create a painting from start to finish. There will be some homework before this class in the form of a visual journal that we will use for reference throughout the class. You'll also need to come with a plan for each of the 2 works you expect to create over the three days, but also have an open mind to the possibility of changes to your plan based on spontaneity and inspiration! I'm often asked more technical questions how I like to finish the edges of my paintings, what type of gesso I prefer and how best to frame finished work. These questions will also be addressed in this intensive work/play weekend at my private studio.
Here's how it will work:
Friday: In this session you'll prepare your panels for painting and make a plan of attack. We'll review your concept for the work you'll create over the weekend, as well as paint the edges of your boards and add gesso if you wish. If you would like to use any of my special tools we'll get them set up at your painting station, and you'll have a chance to choose what colors of paint you want to use. If you prefer to bring your own paint that's fine too. This evening is all about preparation and planning so we can get right to work on Saturday morning.
Saturday & Sunday: We'll jump right into painting with plenty of individualized attention. After the lunch break and at the end of each day we'll have a quick meeting to see where everyone is and if we need to do any problem solving along the way. The whole class will benefit from this intimate, small group approach. Toward the end of the class on Sunday we'll talk about framing and hanging options and have a final critique so we can enjoy everyone's work!
All supplies will be provided except panels and you will leave class with 2 finished projects (about 12" x 12" in size). Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 6 students so classes fill quickly.
Please note: This is an intermediate class for those comfortable working with wax. If you haven't taken a beginning encaustic class you will have to complete one before learning these advanced techniques. Feel free to call me with any questions.

When your payment is received you will be emailed a confirmation notice, additional information about the classes and a map to my studio in SE Portland.
Cancellation and Liability Policies
- Cancellation 7 days before the class date = full refund or may change to another class.
- Cancellation less than 7 days before the class date = full refund only if the space is filled by another paying student.
- No show = no refund.
If the workshop is canceled by the instructor, you will receive a full refund. If another instructor must be substituted for Linda Womack due to illness or emergency you will have the option to attend the class with the substitute instructor or cancel/reschedule without penalty.
Should any injuries occur during or as a result of participation in any class or workshop, the registered student agrees to indemnify
and hold harmless Linda Womack and all employees, instructors and volunteers connected with Linda Womack Fine Art.
